Sump question

I have my 46 gallon and 120 gallon tank setup right next to each other. I would like to run both tanks off of 1 55gal sump located under the 120gal tank. Is this possible? My main concern is avoiding a flood. I am assuming that I could just run an overflow box from each aquarium down into the sump and pump the water back to the tanks using separate return pumps. Would it matter if the seperate return pumps were rated at different flow rates?

why dont you just use a 20g under the 55g...then no worries with only one sump.....too many variables with one sump and two tanks......IMO of course.

Just be careful with the overflows and the water level of the sump with the power off. A little more risky but not unreasonable. If one overflow clogs it will overflow all the water in the sump til its dry. Just more water that can end up on the floor.
