Sump questions

I just bought a 90 gallon aquarium and the sump is apparently a wet dry system, the sump is built weird and the bottom of the baffles are open so the depth of the water is low and i want to have a fuge area, so my questions are 1. Is there any way to get the baffles out without braking the sump or baffles? (it is acrylic) 2. if the filter sock is mostly submerged in the water is that ok?, Does the water travel through the whole sock if it is submerged?, 3. If no on question 2 how do i make the first section of the sump a lower water level then the next section?

I would think that even if the filter sock is partially submerged it would still have the desired effect, as long as the top is above the surface, the water would have to pass through the sock. You can just use the middle section for a 'fuge by just throwing some chaeto in, or maybe a few pieces of LR rubble. I would leave the baffles as they are and just silicone a couple pieces of acrylic of glass that go to the bottom so you can dictate your water level. Judging by the pvc fitting on the end it looks like it was meant to be used with an external pump. Is that how you will be setting it up?
