sump/refugium question

how does a 1" drain pipe and 3/4" return sound? tank is 110 gallon the sump/refugium is 36 gallon.is that about right. what are your systems running? any help would be great.

I think it depends on your return pump and how many return back into the main tank. A lot of people equate water velocity with flow but you can have a high turn over rate without having major turbulance in your tank. My opinion is that you don't need an ultra high turnover through your sump if you have a closed loop or good powerheads.

I was planning on the return pump to be 1000GPH I am also putting in ball value to adjust accordingly

for that rate I would go 1 1/4" ... but like corndog said, your return pump and the turn over rate of your return dont have to be that high as long as you have other internal pumps for water movement

yeah i understand but the 1000gph doesn't a count for lift. so it will be less.

so it sounds like 1 1/4 and 3/4 return

I agree with northbay. On my 120 I have two 1 1/4" and two 3/4"
I Run two 1200 GPH pumps. When you get ready to build the sump you have to check out our pics of our filter sock boxes. They rock. Northbay is a genius.
