Thank you for pointing that out I really hadn't given it much thought. The stand I got off a fellow reefer and just assumed it was good to go. But, that does make sense that you guys pointed that out. I will for sure reinforce it to prevent any headaches down the road.
So i got everything up and running ready to start my tanks cycle. Leak testing before i never noticed how strong this pump actually was. Now that i have rock/sand in place i start it up and it seems super powerful blowing all my sand arpund etc. i used a combination of reefflakes and minflakes so i dont have super fine sand. Anyways i diverted water through my manifold via a hose that i ran back into my sump to slow the flow down a bit on my return. It worked. But this magdrive is super loud even in my basement i can hear it humming in my living room. Is this normal? It seemed to get louder after i diverted the water to reduce flow. Should i be worried? I dont want to destroy this pump!
Back pressure on flow from pump will not harm it in any way, sometimes it actually decreases electricity usage.
Mag 24 is a BIG pump to get the flow they claim they recommend a large diameter pipe.
As far as noise it's hard to tell without being there.
You might be better off with a Pan World.
I was really worried about the backflow and it damaging the pump. Thanks my mind is at ease now. But i adjusted my gate valve so really i dont have to much backflow going on. It was just strange that the pump sounded different. Will back flow pressure affect my plumbing at all? As far as more pressure on my pipes etc. i will look into the pan world, are they quieter pumps?
We don't have much pressure in our pipes, we tend to keep it flowing.
Pan World are quieter & probably more energy efficient, same design as an Iwaki.
Like I said a 24 is a BIG pump.
