sump/skimmer/refugium

i meant i dont want one of the huge overflow boxes sitting in my tank because it will take up all the room so i just wanted another way so it would only be a small space being taken up like melevs design for his overflow

I would not say borrowed from Melev's Reef.

He puts his designs up for people to use, does he not? I still give him credit for the basic design.

alright now i know how to do all that, what tube do i use for the return? and how big of a pump should i use to get the water flowing back into the tank? any ideas on other skimmers?
Thanks
Duds
I have used hoses from 3/4 to 1 1/2 this will depend on what size pump for a intake ( line from the over flow to the sump). My buddy who has a 29 G unit uses 1 inch. His pump moves 1300 gallons an hour, but you can use any thing from 250gph to 1300gph to push water back to the tank. Attach pvc to your pump and plum it to the tank as a return, I recomed the same size as the output of your pump.

Ok, check out the cpr overflows, they are a little slimmer in design.

I simply do not know who developed the design but from my point of view he is not the only contributor to my final results.

i just took a look at it on marinedepot.com and it says it skims 6 times more than units with tubes what is that suppose to mean? do i still need a skimmer?
Thanks
Duds

o alright, im new to this type of stuff, so what tubing do you guys use for your tanks (from the sumps to the tank)?
Thanks

I recomed the same size as the output of your pump.
Why? My Mag9.5 uses 3/4" output, I convert that into a 1" and I couldn't be happier with the results. IMO the 9.5 produces to much flow for a 3/4" pipe.

i will probably go as small as possible for a return pump i already think i have enough flow in my tank, but what piping is the best for plumbing from the tank to the sump and the sump to the tank?
Thanks

If you are not comfortable using pvc, a good alternative is the reinforced braided flexable tubing sold at home depot or lowes.
I use a combination of both

alright i will more than likely go with the flexible tubing just in case, i am a kid and leaks are not going to be appreciated in my parents house

I was thinking of a asm G1X skimmer would that be overkill, the sump i am going to add is a 25 gallon aga tank?
Thanks
Duds

o ok then looks like the G1X is the skimmer for me, has anyone had any experience with them or other asm skimmers?
Thanks
Duds
