Sump stirring?

I have intermittently come across comments about stirring the sump when lights go out for feeding purposes. I would be interested to know what people's thoughts are on this and their experience. Thanks.

The idea is that you are releasing nutrients for the corals to consume, I don't see how it could hurt. Only thing is if your sand bed is too deep you probably shouldnt stir very much of it at a time.
