Sump suggestions?

I have a 40 gal breeder I want to turn into a reef tank. My goal is to have a large refugium for growing pods and sustain a pod eater eventually. I'm a bit overwhelmed by what I see online for sumps available. Do you have any advice?

I liked the idea of a triton sump as they advocate big fuges but then saw their tanks were close to $1,000

I forgot to add: I also plan to add a protein skimmer in the sump. So I ld have one compartment for the skimmer, then the fuge with chateau algae / pods, and then finally the last pocket with the return pump. Not quite sure where I'll put an auto top off or heaters yet. Input is appreciated!

Look here... Numerous sumps to choose from far less than that price.. Decided on a stand yet? That may dictate size..

Thank you!

I am building my own stand and am half way through it. I am looking at the Triton V2 sump that's about $350. Whats the difference between that and this sump on eBay?

They seem eerily similar except one is 1/7 the price.

The link is for a kit. You need to buy the proper glass tank to go along with it, then attach the baffles yourself. You will save some money, but after my last experience with one I will never buy a glass sump again. Cracked the front pane on a sump I bought used from a Red Sea reefer 625. The thing never saw a drop of water in my home. After that $200 in the trash I bought a Trigger crystal 36 that can easily be lifted and moved with one hand while empty if necessary.

Glass sumps are heave and easier to break, though there are literally hundreds of thousands that have been used successfully over the years. I didn’t want to chance dropping a rock or return pump into the bottom and cracking something after that so I went with acrylic.

Whoops. Should have phrased my question better.
Will I really save ~$200 If I just purchase the kit and tank and set that up? Without a huge loss in quality?

Since I won't be stacking rock and it'l be only 20 gallons I'm not too concerned about the glass breaking or the weight.
