sumpless reefers?

I'm starting a 90 gallon no sump tank and was wondering of success from anyone else? equipment used ? and so on

well from doing this for a little bit im sure you will find people who are successful in keeping a sumpless tank.

I did it on my first tank. i though it was fine. then on the next tank i did it with a sump and i will never go back.

keeps equipment out of the tank and hidden from view. so the tank looks cleaner and less clutter.

adds more volume to the tank for stabler water conditions.

when the tank is running the level of the water will not lower in the display.

you can house a bigger and better skimmer for a more full tank.

i had success running my first tank with no sump. i had its challenges like micro bubbles. all took time to overcome. but yes it can be done

That's a lot of rock for a 90 DT!!

I have a 120 gal. sumpless tank with a Reef Octopus hob skimmer, Tru-Temp heater, one Jeboa wp 25 and one wp40. 150 lbs. of live rock and one inch sand bed. due to severe back problems I can't have a sump. mostly softies with a couple of lps. no dosing. 14 months and so far everything is great.

I've been running a 20gal sumpless set up for almost a year now. At this point it is SPS dominant and I also have a maxima claim in there.... so it's a bit of a finicky tank. Without going into lengthy specifics... I'm wayyyy overfiltering, have a HOB fuge, etc... and it is all working out fine.

If i did it again however, I would definitely set up a sump. Sumpless is very doable, just a lot more to think about and maintain. The look of having all sorts of junk hanging off the back doesn't bother me much (hey, it's all really cool junk!!).. just poses it's own very unique problems from time to time. I find myself DIY'ing weird little solutions for this or that which I don't think would be issues if I just had the extra room of a sump to play with.

what model skimmer do you have?

Reef Octopus bh 2000. pump is on the outside so less in the tank.

your tank looks great. I don't even have a ato. I'm retired so it's no problem keeping the water levels right. I have added a few more corals since my last pic. starting to run out of room for anymore coral.
