It's a dendro. Suns don't have that rigid a skeletal frame

My experience is, and I have hundreds of each, is that dendros will often take a little longer than suns to open up when you first get them. Give them a little squirt of mysid, wait to see if they open, then feed if they do. The most important thing is to feed them, whenever possible right now. It may have been a very long time since their last good meal

Mine closed up randomly one day after having them for about a month. LFS told me to re-train them to open while the lights were on. Method I used was to place a clear, plastic drinking cup (the party cups you buy at the store) with some small holes drilled for flow top down over the coral, but make sure that there is enough clearance so that the tentacles can open without touching anything (don't want to agitate them). Also be sure to avoid bumping the base. Put some "stinky" food like krill or squid underneath the cup with the dendros. This way, the coral is encouraged to come out, but your other tank inhabitants can't get to the food. I did this about every other day, and would feed the pieces of food to a few of the heads each time after they fully opened. Pretty soon, hopefully, they will all be opening up looking for food. Then you can cut down to feeding the whole colony once or twice a week. Good luck.

So a week has passed and today is the first time its stayed open all day. I been feeding em everyday. If I seen even the slightest hint of a tenticle poking out Id hit it with a little rods food. Im thinkin I'll keep feeding it daily for another week or so then I'll put it on the same schedule with the rest of my LPS.

Beautiful, can't wait to see it fully opened! I'm super jealous. ONE head of a dendro is TWICE what you spend on that little colony for me. I've always wanted one, but not for those prices. Haha

Yes, definitely a great find. Sellers usually cut them into single heads and sell them for that much per polyp! I was lucky enough to snag a 93 head colony, earlier this year before it was chopped up. Up to about 150 heads now and, as much as people ask for me to frag off a branch or head, I just can't bear to break up such a unique piece. If you don't mind feeding it often (I'd say correctly too but you're already feeding Rod's, which is great), you'll end up with a big, beautiful colony that isn't often seen!

Wow, awesome buy. I have a green dendro that I bought for $8 a head, 6 heads... yours looks to have at least 13 heads I counted... jealous...

Yea man I've been buying up alot of sweet little frags at good prices lately with all of these grand ideas to grow them out and frag em out. Now that a few are starting to get some real size to them, I dont want to lol.
