Sun coral question?

I have had mine about 4 weeks. It has about 5 large polyps and 3 or 4 babies. I am feeding it daily. My question is it has just started to open ( or at least I've just started catching it open ). My question is the only ones opening up are the babies? The large ones have not opened. Actually it has taken so long to open up I was beginning to wonder if it was going to survive. Then last night I caught the baby open and tonight there are 3 babies open. Is this common? Thanks.

do you have any directed flow on the top larger polyps? i found that mine close up if any direct flow hits them.

have you seen the large polyps eat some of the food?

there's no point in feeding it if the polyps aren't open.

I feed frozen cyclopeeze to the tank, wait a few mintues for the coral to open, then target feed mysis, etc. to the sun coral.

No direct flow just indirect. No I haven't seen the adults open up at least not completely...I can see a very small part of the polyp but that's it. The babies are opening up nicely. I have been covering it with a small plastic glass with a hole cut in it to feed, so no I haven't seen any of them eat but I am assuming they are??? any help would be appriciated thanks.

hmm it took mine a few days before they all started to open up at night. when they eat they usually suck the food into themselves. have u tried repositioning?

I really don't have a lot of dark places in my tank where I would be able to spot feed it too. I thought about trying to move it. I could look for a different spot if it might help??? thoughts?

a shady area although some have recommended in a cave area. i have mine in an area under a large piece of rock

When I fed them last night I kept them covered for awhile and when I removed the cup they all had opened. Yes !!!

the longest i took to lure a sun coral out after acquistion is 3-4 weeks (actually my most recent purchase)

it has yet to open fully....daily dosing of cyclopeeze is good to induce, and occassionally luring mysis shrimp or prawns at its mouth althought it has yet to extent its tentacles is also a good way....but watch your nutrients level soar
