Sun Coral Spawning

IS it normal for sun coral to spawn? I have a sun coral in a 30g with no light and target feed then couple times a week. The other day I took down the 30g and found bunch of yellow specks on the bottom of the tank and on the rocks. When I looked closely, they were tiny sun coral polyps. Just wondering if they were spawning cause they were stressed?

Yes, Tubastrea species will "broadcast spawn" resulting in little colonies forming elsewhere in the aquarium. Sounds like you had the coral for a while, which as Moses pointed out means it was "happy" enough to spawn. It is true that that Tubastrea (and other coral) will broadcast spawn (if they can) in a last ditch effort to reproduce while stressed. Generally this happens with a specimen that's been through a rough transit, is in rough shape, and not happy in their new tank.
