sun coral (tubastrae)

Just purchased one this weekend and aclimated it slowly. It hasn't opened yet however it is placed under a ledge. My ? is, does it really need to be under a ledge? I have been viewing several diff tanks with them placed in the open and seem to be doing fine. I have 234w of T5 on my 55 tall.

it's a non photo-synthetic coral, so many people place them shaded locations that they want to fill up with something.

that's kinda what I am doing. The place where I would really like it only has a small ledge compared to where it's placed now.

they open up when fed. Squirt mycis at them and they will open

they are fine out in the open, under lights. mine are under a ledge, but that is just because i wanted to fill it in under the ledge.
