Sun corals and dendros in mixed reef

I tried it your way, it worked well. I'm keeping my sun coral in a clear plastic cup within my sump now, for easy removal & feeding. What surprised me is how much they were able to take in.

Also, i like this method because I only have the one NPS coral, and it helps me feed them without as much wasted food.

Awesome!!

If I didn't feed this way, the SCs would starve because my crabs and skrimps are insanely quick and greedy. They will snatch the food right out of the SCs mouths. MY SCs eat so darn slowly.

Mikey, another way to feed your sun coral would be to box it up and ship to to me. I'll be sure it even writes home every few weeks to let you know how it's doing.

A good experiment would be to frag it in half, ship half to DWIZUM and half to me, then we can see if latitude/longitude have any affect on them.

I have had my SC for about nine months - feed them once or twice a week by hand, but also add Reef Chili and zoo/phytoplankton for my filter feeders. My SC are multiplying and seem to be happy.

Exactly, Hahaha.

I keep my suns and balano (poor man's dendro) in a 5.5g pico with some gorgonians. It started as a 2.5g setup, but I've had issues with leaking tanks twice already, so everything is now in a 5.5g. Probably better in the long run. The LR and substrate though has been running since August last year. I've found...

1. flow, flow, flow! I've got two Rio 90s and an Aquaclear 50 modded refugium.
2. I feed everyday, but I have what I call heavy feedings and light feedings
3. Variety, they love eating different things
4. Temperature, my reef is also at a cool 76

I also use the tupperware method. My first sun coral is still a bit problematic, but it was my first one and I didn't have the experience I have now. It also had about a month where a cleaner shrimp was stealing food from it's polyps, so while I thought it was eating, it was the cleaner shrimp that was actually eating. I will tupperware that one every once in a while to give it a boost. Today it gets a tupperware feeding. It's smaller than my other suns and it was the first sun that my LFS and I had ever dealt with, so mistakes were made. You learn, you experiment until you find a method that works for you and that results in happy corals. I'll post some pictures of my suns in a bit, but in a different thread.
