Sunburst Anemone

I'm bringing back this old thread because it has a video of a Sunburst Anemone and it's got some messed up tentacles. Well my Sunburst has the same thing going on most of the time. Yesterday it was bubbled up early in the morning but as the day went on the long stringy tentacles came back as well as many of them in a corkscrew. Any ideas as to why these do this long stringy nasty looking tentacles?

Ya I saw that thread and I've researched Google to death on it. That data thread is more about bubble or not. My question is more towards why are the tentacles like 4" or more long and very stringy or in a corkscrew and just as long?

IME from damage.

Have maintained large colonies, those hosting clowns or having "anemone pests" would exhibit the corkscrewing or bends...those in long term or lifetime isolation would not.

Strictly my experience, but it was a lot of BTAs in lots of situations :)

I will honestly say I don't know...

However the only time I have seen a BTA with long tentacles was in an environment with very blue lighting (heavy actinics). I am not exaggerating when I say the tentacles were 12" long (or longer). They looked like snakes.

I have seen tons of BTAs in the wild, and have never seen a tentacle longer than about 4". In brighter light / shallower water, they are more like 2" or shorter.

Although mine are rbta's they also have that corkscrew look. I do have i would say on the blue side of the lights with 14k hamiltons and 2 super atanic vhos so its very possiable.

I have 4 in my tank and 2 of them are regulary used by my clowns and 2 that are not but all have the long coorkscrew tenticles

I have a 4 bulb HO T5 running two actinics a blue and a purple 10k and 14k so this makes sense, oh the bulbs are fairly new.

Oddly enough the sunset has gone on the side of a rock and is now starting to bubble. Of course he is on the backside of the rock they are all on and I can't get any pictures.

It was recommended to have two or 50% of my lights in actinic. I'm wondering if I change out one for something else that I have and see if they bubble up? What bulb would you suggest that I swap out for? I've got about a dozen old bulbs with a few decent ones.

I've got lazy clowns that hang in a corner close to the bta's but they don't do much until they want food then they go to the front glass. They don't even spend anytime swimming the tank and checking out the rocks. The Cherub Angel keeps trying to get them to do something, kind of comical. Hopefully sooner or later they will host with the nems. I think I'm going to push down their cleaned out a nest area of sand and see if that doesn't get them moving. These clowns aren't of breeding age
