Sunlight question

So I have a small living room with a tall window. About 8 or 9feet tall. I get afternoon sun. The tank is going on the opposite wall about 10 feet away. How much do I have to worry about direct sunlight and algae growth?

Potentially yes.. it may effect algae growth...
A window shade will take care of that "if needed"...

I have blinds but will have then open sometimes.

Keep nitrates/phosphates low and you shouldn't have any problems..
I've seen where blocking the sunlight has caused different species to stop growing in tanks.. But you still have a light right on the top of the tank..
Its just a difference in spectrum for the most part..

A lot will depend on angles/quality of the windows/times of the year,etc..
We really can't give you a solid yes or no answer because of way too many specific details..

i agree if nitrates and phos are under control there shouldnt be a problem.

I had a tank directly in front of a wall that was entirely windows. Faced south, bright sun most of the day. As long as nutrients are good, you are fine. Freshwater tanks have this issue a lot, but that is because they typically run higher nutrients, and don't have strong lighting. Reef tanks already have the strong lighting, so direct sun doesn't make that much of a difference.

Yeah, it matters in freshwater where people tend to use tap water. Without the nutrients it needs, algae can't grow no matter what the light.
