Sunlight Supply Reef Optix 3

Anyone have this fixture? I am thinking about two of these 250w over my 75 with two 54w T5 supplementation.

Another problem I have is the canopy is low and the Optix would only be about 1" to 2" above the water line. I know heat could/would be a problem.

Any thoughts?

thanks.

You can always cut holes in your canopy and place them on top, shining thru the holes. Helps lessen the heat buildup too.

Mine are 4-5" from the water line and that is low. It heats the tank up 2 degrees over the 6 hours. I would just think at 1-2" would be a ton of evaporation. Hang them from the ceiling and cut holes in the canopy for them maybe?

Thanks guys. Yea, I thought about cutting the top of the canopy and placing them on top as well.. I just didn't know how odd it would look with the canopy having two fixtures poking out the top.

I also thought the evaporation would be a nightmare.

Thanks for the help. *sigh*

My canopy is too short also and I want to get it further from the top of the canopy and further from the water. What I am going to do is take the peices off the inside of the canopy that hold it to the tank and cut some larger pieces to raise the canopy up.

I thought about that too t5Nitro, but the canopy that AGA makes if you raise it more then 1/4" shows the black trim of the tank.. and would look awful for my application.

I have a mission series AGA, raise it up and put a wood panel on the front gap that it makes to cover it if you want.

Yea, we thought of that too but at that point we would just build on and we're lazy trying not to have to do that :P

that is alot of light for a 75. you could easily keep sps with just 2 150's. The T5's will make nice supplements. Just looking out for your electricity bill :)

lol thanks :) The 150's it is!

I wouldn't go with 150w. There is another person on here that bought a 150w fixture, not reef optix but he has a real nice tank. He said the only thing he would change from what I recall was to go with 250w so it must give a better appearence. They would work, just may want to find out what they look like over a tank first maybe. I have 3x250w reef optix over my 125 that is 22" deep. I went to radio shack and got 2 fans I think that they are used for computers or cooling off other electronic equipment. One at each end of the tank and it is real cool in there.

I just don't think you can put a halide at 1-2" off the water. For one, you may get a ton of evaporation, two: heat, and three: bleach corals.
