Hey Everyone...

Wanted to get your thoughts on using sunlight to supplement 70W metal halide on 30G cube frag tank...

Let me know what you think...mainly softies, but may try SPS if you think possible.

Thanks,
Liz

IMO, if you have the ability to utilize natural sunlight in your aquarium, then you should. Just make sure you're phosphates and nitrates are near-zero or you'll likely see an increase in nuisance algae growth.

What kind of exposure would be possible with your setup? That would be a big component of whether or not you could keep SPS, and whether they would just stay alive, or thrive.

The tank would get an Eastern exposure (so full sun in the morning). Wanted to keep this tank simple with just oversized HOB filter, to additional internal pumps for flow, Remora AquaC skimmer and approx 10lbs LR and no sand bed.

hi. I dunno. I want to follow up on this as well.

because on one hand, sunlight is the most natural

but the downfall is that its hard to control. Sunlight changes during the seasons and the tropical reefs we are trying to simulate dont have the sun changing as drastically as the sun does in the US.

But since you're using it as a supplement, I dont think it would be a problem. Just maybe some color loss during the winter
