Sunpod ballast sound

Is there meant to be a slight high pitch humming noise comming from a sun-pod 150 watt light? Its not the fan its the ballast.

I think you are not supposed to hear much after it's broken in....
I'm looking to get one too and thought I read somewhere that they are very quiet.

i bought mine second hand, he said its 3 months old (and i believe him from what the condition was and the bulb was the stock bulb). Is this considered broken in?

From what I read, I think it should be broken in by 2 days.
If it's really loud you should probably try to contact the company to verify it's okay.

The Current USA 150 watt halide fixtures use Sunpark electronic ballasts for the halides. They are normally quiet right from the get go. I'm assuming that they haven't changed ballasts but the Sunpark ballasts should run silently.

Hmmm...I personally don't think you should hear anything unless you are close to it.

How big is the fixture? I was assuming you have a smaller fixture, but maybe as you go bigger or higher watt you will get humming.

Also, if your room is very quiet you may hear it. It also depends on the kind of ballast that runs it..

It's HQI right?

Its HQI, 24" fixture. Quiet room yes most of the time. The sound doesnt bother me that much since i get used to it but im asking in case there is something wrong.

Do you have other ballasts you have used to compare the sound against?

I would think that you shouldn't be able to hear it from that far away. Probably if you are close to it.

I turned it on today for another test run and the sound is still there, it isnt loud no, i got a video tape of it with sound, let me upload it.
