Can anyone tell me the difference between a super black percula clownfish and a black onyx. Just went to my LFS and purchased what they told me was a super black percula but it looks exactly like a black onyx. I can upload a pic if necessary.

Onyx Percula refer to Percula with black connecting the three bars, that and black dorsal fin in hard to please people.
Super Onyx black Percula are mostly black except the face. Most of the fins are black also.

In the picture below, my female are all black and white except the face and the pectoral and pelvic fins. Dorsals, tail, anal fins are all black. I would consider this female to be Super Black Percula.

I know the picture is not the greatest. I had to use the net to get him to sit still enough for a good picture if I didn't he would be flying around the tank like he normally does.

Holyhands22,
Your fish is not an super black. It is an onyx percula. Some people would consider that it is not even an onyx because the dorsal fin is not black.

They are wild SI Percs. That more than likely were labeled as Super Black Percs from the wholesalers. Most places will not label clowns "Onyx" unless they are tank raised and came from "Onyx" parents.

My Onyx pair looked like that when I got them from my buddy. They have since filled in very close to OrionN's pair.

Did you get it at That Fish Place?

Yes i got It from that fish place in PA. So the dark spots on him will get darker and bigger or basically stay the same.
