Hi all

Just wanted to get your input on the Super Reef Octopus 2000 skimmer on a 85 gallon tank plus a 20 gallon sump. Any input is appreciated. Thank you! :)

Unless you have that tank stacked to the rim with corals and many, many fish, that skimmer would be too much.

Go with the SRO 1000. I have one on my 80g with a 20g sump. Works awesome.

I planning on using biopellets. I've read that its good to have an oversized skimmer with biopellets. How does the Super Reef 2000 compare to the Octopus Extreme 200??? Anyone?

I have the SRO 2000 on my 80 DT and 80 sump, works awesome. I did over size it though to accommodate a bigger DT :)

One thing to be aware of is that the output pipe splashes a LOT. I have the same skimmer and ordered the vent pipe attachment from the manufacturer ($37 shipped). You can try to make it yourself but it's a pain because the skimmer piping is metric sized. Love the skimmer though!

Agreed it does splash and it is a weird size. I took a short piece of spa flex and spun it on my grinder to make it the right diameter then put a pvc 90 on the other end which is half in/half out of the water and it works great.
