super reef octopus 5000 int

hey what does everyone run their sro 5000in t as far as water depth,i read the manual says 9.5" that seems deep.any thoughts

I have mine at 7" and thinking of taking it off of the stand and try running at 9". I am sure I would have to lower the water level in the skimmer and have wondered if it would cause the skimmer to have overflow issues
