Just so you all know, my fish has been in there for a good long while now. Also, my tank temp is decently low...76 or 77.

He's healthy as a hog. *knock on wood*

Nice pics... :)

So your Barbershops haven't "paired" up yet??? Kinda funny how they situated themselves to either side of the jawfish...

The jawfish looks like a curious guy... What are you feeding him???

Do your firefish stay out a lot??? One of mine stays hidden most of the time, comes out once in a while though... :)

I got him as one of those Diver's Den fish from the doctors...saw him and he looked really healthy and awesome. I could not resist and had been considering one for a while (as I discussed on here a bunch).

No my dang high fin red banded gobies have no paired up. Curiously, they're both about the same size but one looks like it has a fat belly (pregnant?) and the other has probably the longest fin I've ever seen on one of these fish. Actually...if anything the goby on the right has kinda paired with the jawfish because I'll catch them peeking out of the same hole pretty dang often. Just some interesting observations I've made.

The left goby has paired with my teeny tiny Randall's shrimp that I got at Coral Reef. I love that dang shrimp. I saw him a bunch yesterday, but that goby is SO skittish. The shrimp was building the burrow more but if I got remotely close to the tank, the goby would get very very nervous acting. hah hah. He's doing a good job protecting his shrimp.

The firefish do stay out. If you get anywhere near the tank, they will kinda hang out on the left side because then they can easily *dart* back behind the rocks. heh heh...get it...dart. They're pretty cool though. When you're not right up next to the tank they are out front a lot.

Curious doesn't even begin to describe this jawfish. He is constantly watching us. You can see him look from one of us to the other when we're both standing there. He's really neat.

ah very nice! hes looking awesome, wasnt expecting to see that :) he looks pretty small atm maybe just the pic though.

Im through with $$$ fish after I found half of my helfrichs laying in the sand....

Hi Mel,

Your fish are beautiful! I am glad that you are enjoying your aquarium again :)

I have two of these barbershop guys living with a alpheus belullus shrimp, too. One of mine is slender with a longer dorsal ray and the other one is chubby with a shorter ray. I don't know if they are truly dimorphic, though.

I see my little guys sometimes together in the same hole and sometimes separate at different holes. The holes turned out to be connected with a network of underground tunnels. When I started feeding one guy at one entrance, within a minute, the other guy whom I saw at a different entrance came shooting out of the entrance where I was dropping food at :)

I put another shrimp (alpheus randali) in their tank, but I am afraid that this shrimp is living alone. I understand that high fin gobies live with A. randali and not with A. belullus in the wild. My yellow watchman goby on the other hand lives with A. randali in another tank rather than its natural symbiont A. belullus. Nuts, I have some confused fish and shrimp.

Tomoko

That's funny Tomoko! I added these fish based on the very idea that you stated: they live with Randall's gobies in the wild. One has definitely paired with him though, so I'm pretty glad. He was so tiny I was worried he'd just get lost, but one of the fish found him in a few days. yay!

I hope you have your tank tightly covered. Beautiful jumper you have there.
Thanks for trying to educate people. I have been around this hobby for a little while and did actually do tons of research prior to my fish purchase. I nearly always err on the side of being overly safe rather than too risky...ask anyone.

My tank is tightly covered, though I have also read that if there is nothing to scare your fish it has no reason to jump. I'm not sure I believe that though, so yeah...completely enclosed nano tank.

That is good, I love blue spotted and I hate to say it but I lost two of them to jumping, the first one jumped trough the holes of the eggcrate cover, the second after having replaced the eggcrate with acrylic covers. It jumped trough a 1/2"hole used for the powerhead power cords.

very cool! i saw him at liveaquaria a little while back and was tempted. i'd love to see him in person...when's the meeting at your place?? :)

Lookin good Mel. Jenn's into gobies for her tank. So far, she only has a Tangaroa (paired with a randall's pistol she's had for about 4 years). Tiny little guy, but the burrow is in the front corner of the tank, so it is easy to see them moving around in there:). If Jaws (her female Cinnamon) will put up with more, she wants to get another goby or two of different species. She's always liked the goby look of your tanks:).

I am getting ready to get some more gobies. I definitely want a few green banded ones. I'm thinking maybe 4 green banded ones and one red headed goby. I might throw in a gold line neon. I'm just not sure.

I am in active "saving" mode currently, so I'm trying not to get overboard.

Given how far in advance we have things scheduled under the new Randy regime...never.

The Randy Regime shall come to an end here in 2 months... :) I will be stepping aside so that others may serve the club... Of course I shall remain in an unofficial capacity... ;)
