super slow 220 peninsula build

I really like the side going down stairs. That adds a really nice accent to an otherwise boring trek up or down stairs.

This one shows the kitchen side. You can see that only 1/2 is exposed since there is a stairway in the way. I know, not a traditional peninsula.

It's still a cool build that can be viewed from both sides. It's different and I like it! Subscribed

Hubby did a nice job building and mounting doors. I painted it yellow to add some color to the room and to tie the two rooms together. The yellow is the wall color in the kitchen side.

Added two clowns and a yellow tang from quarantine. A small clean up crew was added a couple of weeks ago. Parameters are close to normal. Nitrates still coming down.

Have a Profilux doser coming next week, hopefully. To start figuring out that process. I have been manually dosing baked baking soda to boost ALK. Planning on running 90% of top off through the doser so I can eventually dose KALK with ATO.

Having been working on my Apex coding on the ATO to keep it fool proof, or as fool proof as possible.

Also tidying up loose ends to ensure little fingers don't get into something they shouldn't

Trim and Tile done

Trim and Tile done

Things have been going slow but finally we got the tile and trim done.

I've added a few things and so far everything is doing great.

Parameters have been nice a stable. I have GHL Doser 2 set up but not dosing much yet as Calcium and Alk have been steady just using Kalk with top off. The Kalk is running through channel 4 on the Doser at a rate of about 75% daily evap rate. The ATO on float switches takes up the slack.

Also just set up a DOS pump to perform AWC at 7 gals per day. So far this system is working great. I have been keeping a really close eye on it to avoid problems. The old salt water output feeds my QT tank which then drains via a stand pipe. Nice to be able to couple the two systems. I will just have to monitor salinity in the QT tank closely.

There are two MP40s for additional flow and they really work nice controlled through Apex Fusion.

haven't posted for a while but I recently added a AWC system utilizing the DOS pump. I have it set to change 20,000mls each day. This results in about 50 gallons per week. Things really took off in my tank since then. Parameters are super stable and all corals look super happy.

I had an outbreak of some sort of brown hair algae and panicked thinking it was dinos. after looking at them under the microscope I was able to confirm it was some sort of algae. Nitrates and Phosphates are nearly zero since starting vinegar dosing. These numbers were confirmed by Triton labs. Three hours of scrubbing with a toothbrush got them all removed. I changed the lights to more of a 20K spectrum, reduced duration and will spot treat/dose with H202 to keep it under control.

I also added a WP60 for more flow and to just try it out since they are so cheap. It is controlled through the apex and only running 30%max. So far so good.

have an order coming from Battlecorals as soon as it warms up a bit, hopefully next week.

I added a second mag cleaner on the kitchen side so I don't have to keep trying to get the mag around the post.

Here's a new FTS - it is really hard to get good pictures with the iPhone.

and here a sump picture. One thing I've been doing is using blank cattle ear tags to label all my plug ends and zip tying them to the cord. Makes it real easy when you need to unplug something in a hurry. You can see them where everything plugs into the energy bars above the sump.

Love the setup! Very similar to my build as well. I even upgrade from a 180g to a 220g peninsula tank as well and I love it. Having a peninsula is like have two tank almost.

I was also looking into that Neptune DOS pump as well for dosing but I already have the Vertex Libra Stepper dosing pump. Is the Neptune DOS pump worth it? I would have to buy two if I wanted to dose two-part and AWC.

Duc1098 could you keep your vertex for dosing and add the DOS for AWC?

I would probably stick with my Vertex Libra for dosing considering the money I spent on it. I was never really interested in AWC until I read your post about it. Has it really made that much of a difference?

Yes! I can't believe how great the livestock (particularly SPSs) look since the AWC system. I attribute it to extremely stable conditions as opposed to the boon and bust cycle of the weekly 50 g changes I was doing. I still make up water once a week but now the same volume is evenly distributed throughout the week.
