What's the difference? And how can you tell? Thanks, Dave
"Super" and "Terminal" are often used interchangeably and refer to males that have different coloration and/or different shape. Regular "Males" usually look like females and have a different reproductive strategy, instead of defending a harem with many females, regular males spawn en masse with large groups of females.
Yes, sorry, I just looked back and the only place I mentioned flame was in the title, my bad.Are you talking C. jordani (flame wrasse)?
my avatar is a supermale flame, he is close to 6" now

That is sweet... So in the "pairs" I have seen at the LFS, the "male" usually has that coloring and the "female" has little to no yellow
I am not a noob with these questions, but these fish are my dream fish, so I want to make sure I get it right the first time, so I apologize for all the questions.
So, what would happen if I picked up a pair from the LFS, and the smaller/female actually had started to turn male? Will there be problems of aggression like with Anthias? Thanks, Dave
Well, if it were me, I would get a M + F + F. That way, you are the most likely to end up where you want to be. If the female were starting to transition, the presence of a male and another female is likely to keep that from happening. Unless, of course, the male dies, then the transition will happen quickly (about 2 weeks or less). I guess I should have reread the title, but I read hundreds of post daily and sometimes lose track of where I am. :celeb3:
Ok, one more thing. If you can simulate sunset in your tank, you will probably be able to get mating behavior which is wild beyond anything you have seen in this hobby. Incredible flashing behavior.

I have the actinics on for 1 hour before and one hours after the halides come on to simulate that. AND, I run moonlights opposite the regular photoperiod. Close enough? Thanks...

I don't know. My lighting systems dim which seems to stimulate them. Perhaps your lighting strategy will work but I cannot predict.
