Has anyone seen Amadeus at Geva in Rochester yet? I saw it the other night. I am curious on what anyone's reviews are.

Yes. We went last week. I thought it was ok, for some reason I was not super impressed. My wife loved it. Mother in-law recommended it. She liked it a lot and since she offered to babysit the show itself was secondary to the fact that we actually were able to get out.
 
Haven't seen it but the plot looks interesting. Do they actually attempt to get the audience to feel sympathy for Salieri? I don't think I could.
 
ok, well...here's my review. I fell asleep. I had awesome seats, great company...was completely thrilled with the set...and then. SNORE. And honestly...I don't really know if the intention was to generate sympathy for Salieri, because I seriously felt little connection with ANY of the characters. Mozart, sometimes...and the scenes with him in it sorta brought me outta my boredom induced coma. Now, granted, the actor playing Salieri was phenomenal. Truly an incredible actor...but it seems to me that almost 4 hours for a straight stage play is WAY WAY too long.

In the car ride home, i tried to be polite and thank my friend for the ticket, but i couldn't help myself...i blurted out, that really sucked, did you think it sucked too? Which prompted a drink and discussion. And he didn't like it either.

So, given a choice between the movie version and the stage version? :idea: I'll take a good beer and a game of pool. :twitch:
 
Ha! Well I absolutely LOVED the movie version! There's 2 strikes against the play per you and G. so we will pass on the play.
 
don't get me wrong...wanna see an awesome set and costumes that are outta this world? Go...but don't be expecting a riveting night of theater.

Now, in November? Come see the Young Writers Festival of New Plays on the Next Stage. I'm directing two of them. (pinch me.)
 
Opinions again, any theater goers....who saw Marie Antoinette? One of Rochester's best actresses did an outstanding job with this role.
 
Had a rare opportunity last night to get an after hours tour through Artisan Works on Blossom Rd and Winton. If you have not been there...it is truly a well kept secret...and one that deserves the admission to see the artwork and collections from all walks of life. If you are into anything scary this time of year, some of the places, nooks and crannies have a certain "feel" to them. I was amazed at this place.

I'm also pretty grateful to have a couple of great friends that got me engaged and active in the last few days after a recent trip to the hospital. You guys know who you are, thanks!
 
i am reading the script tonight for the production of, "My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding." And listening to the music. Yup. It's a musical. AND IT'S A TRUE STORY. It's rockin' Toronto and being workshopped for Broadway production in both Rochester and some remote 100 seat theater on 33rd St. in NYC.

It's amazingly hysterical.

The IRS Trick or Treater

The door bell rings, and a man answers it.

Here stands this plain but well dressed kid, saying "Trick or Treat!"

The man asks the kid what he's dressed up like for Halloween.

The kid says, "I'm an IRS agent."

Then he takes 28% of the man's candy, leaves, and doesn't say Thank You.
