supermans for $39

I ordered one from them, along with the rainbow they have.
Not very impressed with it. They sent me a larger piece than what they stated, but it's not as nice as my true superman or rainbow.
But that is just my opinion on it.
I will post a pic of what I got from them later this afternoon.

Flasher, if you're odering from FR, please tell me beforehand...don't know if they're still there, but there were a few corals I'd like to snag from them.

What lighting do you have? That'll make a big difference on color. How long have you had it for?

2x250w HQI MH with 260 watts of actinic. Should be much bluer than it is. I have had it for 4 or 5 weeks.

You know there's a thread I was reading in the SPS forum. This person was complaining that his supermain or rainbow (forget which) was "too fuzzy" because he had such great polyp extension he couldn't see the base very well.

Everyone basically told him to shut up and enjoy a very happy healthy coral and that they wish they had his problem.

If you find your polyps are extending really far (hard to tell without a macro) and the blue is there then its probably going to look that way- You have another thats deeper don't you? I'd figure they are similar but not the same strain of coral and probably slightly different if it doesnt color up completely - or its just really fuzzy.

Don't forget often when we order online what we see is a very very good up close macro shot that may or may not be color balanced (not totally photoshopped but altered in an attempt to bring out either the true or best color) so you will see a LOT of blue and the littler not quite extended polyps (probably from acclimation unless these things sit in tanks waiting to be sold. I'd figure the damand would be high enough they don't necessarily.

I also actually managed a picture of the rainbow that doesn't completely and totally suck so here it is and you can be the judge of how rainbowy they look compared to those sharp frag pictures online (i think grown out they're a bit different too) but i like mine :)

Note that i have T5s and things are kind of blue to begin with so its really hard to get a shot of the true color. The polyps look right but not sure about the base. Its hard when its obscured

Thanks, maybe about a month or so now? I saw this one online and just caved and had to buy it. It was a little pricey but its easily 3" and for that size compared to the other smaller frags that may or may not make it (frags.org has people selling what, .25" sized frags?) I decided to go with gusto and get this guy

I JUST found a stupid nudibranch on him last night too. I"m guessing he may have been wild caught and came in with them. I did a TMPCC dip when it came in but after some reading it seems that stuff only really stuns them but wont really kill off a whole colony. I will be up every night now waiting for the lights to go off and to go in with tweezers for manual removal.

I'm not sure what else I could do besides fragging it and even then.. not a pleasant idea for something so $$.. If you have any experience with that kind of pest i'd love to hear ideas on how to get rid of it :)

I would'nt worry about that superman not having too much color yet. It is one of the corals that drops it's color quick from moving stress. GIve it time, and keep it high. Nice rainbow Chrisstie..

I bought a Superman from Fraggle reef and I was also not impressed. I had a frag of the original Atlantis Aquarium Superman Danae which I view as the one that every Superman is compared against and it was night and day in color between the two. I had them both under the same lighting scheme and the colors where more muted on the Fraggle reef version. The polyps were more on the brown side as apposed to blood red like my other Superman. Since I don't know where FR got theirs from I will not speculate to much but it looks a lot like the Supermans that are coming out of the Maricultured end of the hobby.

Yeah they are the white guys that I found on the rainbow. I've been manually removing them.

i'm debating fragging the coral into pieces so i can make sure i can get rid of the ones under where its encrusted. I'm really hesitant about cutting into something so expensive but am going to give it a week or two of patrolling every night to get rid of them.

If you know of a better way to get rid of them that wont stress the coral out too much please do tell.

I should stick with aquacultered stuff that is free of stupid pests like this but ultimately ordering a bigger piece like i did that i presume is wild caught ended up being cheaper than the tiny frags available in the trade

Dip that thing and shake it vigorously. Then scrub it with a toothbrush and watch it manually. I have been told there entire life cycle is like 3-4 days so they lay eggs quick.

Well I dipped\shook when it came in and apparently int he SPS forums TMPCC \ lugols wont do much but stun the adults and wont touch the eggs.

some folks have had luck with freshwater but it stresses the coral out something bad.. been picking them off at night so we'll see how it goes .. if worse comes to worse i'll frag it up a little so they cant eat the whole thing

Nothing I know of kills the eggs but you can possibly super glue them, or over them. Kind of entombing them.
