It seems logical that I could calculate how much top off water my tanks use/week and then add a week's worth of the stuff I put in like 2 part, mg, etc. Anybody else do this or know why you shouldn't???
ive always thought the same thing... my only assumption is that it depends on how big your resevoir is.
for example:
i would think that a weeks worth of 2 part in a 5 gallon resevoir would be more diluted than a 3 gallon resevoir. Therefore, you wouldnt be getting the same amount into the display.
I don't use an ATO. I make up ro/di water in a brute can, dip up 5 gallons into water jug like they use in those office water coolers and add a weeks worth of baking soda and top off with that. 5 gallon jug lasts me about 5 days. Just figure out the amount to add per volume of water and it works perfectly, start low and work up. My tank doesn't use much calcium or magnesium so I don't have to do a lot of dosing but my alkalinity is always on decline. Weekly water changes with coralife salt keep up the calcium and mag.
I would think the 2 part would interact badly when mixed into the resevoir. Same reason you can not combine the two in the same jug. Also if you are dosing any carbon source I would assum your res would become bacteria central. Trace elements might be ok.
