I respectively disagree with you. I ran PCs on a 120 gal reef tank (for over 12 months) with several SPS corals (Blue tort, green slimmer, orange monti, purple digitata, orange cap.). All at least doubled in 9 months. The colors stayed bright as when I received the corals. The trick is you have to place them within the top 10 inches of water and keep them at least 12" from each side. I did run tests with the PCs with clams. After 2 weeks, the mantles didn't fully extend. I removed the clams and placed them back under HQIs. The next day, the clams looked great. I'm not saying PCs are the method of choice to grow SPS corals, but with proper placement, they do thrive.

I have since moved some of the SPS corals I had under PCs to HQIs and the growth rate is much better. I expected this, but that's not the point of this thread.

I'm going to back up what saltwaterdaddy said....

The lights I have for sale in my other post were used in the tank you see here with clams and lots of other stuff:

500watts is a decent amt of light no matter how you slice and dice it.

doublec, not sure if im still holding those lights for you, but if you can find a hood, to put them in, you should be in good shape.

Heaven help this thread Ha, Ha, Ha, Anyone willing to help him with his home work. Whats up Chaz

already did the home work always do that first before i jump onto this site lol i live on reefcentral!!!!!! This is my home work lol!!!!!

Im always willing to help out a fella reefer. Youll need a sump return pump thats much slower then what i have. But the seio is good for flow. Personally, and just my experience with stoneys. You will need mh. I started with 175w and wasnt enough for things other then monti cap. Also their colors were more brown then the colors they are now. Also eventually if you do want the stoneys, youll most likely need a phosban reactor. Phosphates cause browning in stoneys also. All trial and error on my part but Id say things are runny smooth now. Feel free to ask me things. You can pm also.

thanks alot i think im going to just stay with LPS, Softies and stuff like that!!!!!! So all i need now is a overflow box and return pump!!!! what kind of pump do you recamend????

i just got alot of ants in my pants have no patients to wait want it done so when i come home i can just sit and stare until time to go to bed and bother my cousion asking alot of questions about it lol I JUST CANT WAIT ANYMORE GGRRRR

Actually ill have to leave this one to someone else as i know nothing about external overflows and what pumps run them. Its well worth the wait. You dont want to rush and have something set you back months. Theres some hot lps out there. I still have a few of my favorite softies also.
