Sustainable Reef in San Jose

Hey Bob, I checked out the site and I like their concept But everything I saw on their website was from '09 so we might want to give them a call to see if in fact they are still in business and what their current stock is like. I do like the idea of a visit to the south thou.

I met the owner several years ago and I also like the concept, if they are open and we have time on our Bay area trip we can always drop by. I have a feeling after three stores we will be pretty worned out :D

I see Grant's point about the announcements from '09. There are however also blog entries from 2010, the latest of which is dated from November, so that's only 6-8 weeks old.

Tom, after three stores I'm more concerned about my BUDGET being worn out! ;)

In another word sustainable reef is not sustainable? :D I hope it will work out though.

Thats a pretty old post scarabra. Do you know of the company in question, as in, their current status? Appreciate any info. Thx

Are they still around Mike? Would they be worth a stop someday?

Looks like it... their website states some recent shipments were received.

They had a display tank, 1 frag tank, and fish holding tank. Granted this was a year ago, so I do not know much other than looking at the pictures.

The store owner, Will, was very nice. The concept is great. The prices were a little more than normal due to the concept of sustainable/aquaculture corals. Its like paying a little more to buy organic foods.

I picked up a 2 chalices. 1) No name baby blue with pink eyes 2) Miami Hurricane. They were $10 per eye at the time.

I suggest calling before going as the store hours are out of your normal business hours. In addition, ask to see what is in stock prior to going. Lastly, ask about parking. I believe you can park in the restricted lot behind the store, but its a tow a way area. Its best to ask the owner.

Its a long drive for the club members for a small store, and best to do a LFS tour. Neptunes is also about 10-15 minutes away.

Hope that helps.

Some folks on BAR have just mentioned Sustainable Reef. It's still in business. They have really odd hours;
7PM-10PM Mon-Sat
12 Noon-7pm Sunday - by special appointment.

Perhaps they are mostly internet sales? I'm asking my BAR connections now.
