Swallowtail Angelfish: Pair question

If i buy two female (male are hard to find) Swallowtail Angelfish (one small, one medium or both same size) and intorduce them in the tank at the same time, do you think it's a possibility for them to pair up? Do you think one of the female will change to male?
Has anybody tried it? Would you recommend it? Did female change color and become male? Any thoughts...

I haven't tried it, but I'd think it would work. Buy 2 of significantly different sizes, there will be no bickering about who will become male & who will stay female.

If they are the same size, there is likely to be more aggression and who knows how long it will take then....and if they are the same size & both dominant at heart, theoretically you could end up with 2 males

Do a search on some of the other fish on th family(watanabe, bellus and lamark) about pairing them. If I remember correctly, after a year or so the males started to turn back into females in many cases. Some think they live in harems in the wild but I am not sure. I do know that my friend paid over 300$ for a pair of red sea zebras and has had them 6 months and now the male(which is amazing with streamers and all) is starting to loose his stripes and color. Not sure if it is because he only has one female or just life in captivity. I would try to find a male personally. I know a LFS here in FL has one now that they just put a female in to pair it up with so who knows. Good luck and let us know what you find out

I found an article where they say it's better to have more then one female otherwise male might turn in to female due to less attention :)

Yup! I read that a while back and if you search the threads on here, I remember it happening to the owner of a pair of watanabes and bellus...so if you have a big enough tank get a few! :fish1:
