Swallowtail male angel

they are from much deeper waters so they will take time to adjust to reef lighting.

I would suggest turning your halides off earlier and after about 30 min feeding. And try small foods like cyclopeze.

what does cyclopeze consist of? and shall i get the flake or live like oyster eggs? (don't we feed them to corals?) I thought about feeding after the last MH light shuts off as well because he comes out big and bold after they shut off so...

my swallowtail female adusted very slowly to my tank. for the first week or so, she hid 90% of the time, even when I fed the tank, so dont be surprised if thats what yours does.

she did sometimes come out after the lights were turned out. now, about a month and a half later, she is always out, and one of my favorite fishes!

see i have the female and the male. The male is probably like 5-7 and the female is 3-4 inches Beautiful fish by far!

hopefully mine will just need some taking use to and start eating

just a heads up, mine likes to graze off of rocks. I would recommend feeding just after the lights go out as well.

just let him calm down and adjust, he should be fine. did you see him eat at the store where you got them?

cylcopeze is just small red bug looking things, and yes its usually fed to corals. Dont get the flakes they suck, frozen stuff works good.

they are planktonivors(sp?) just like anthias. So lots of feedings of small to large foods will do.

Oyster eggs are probably to small though.

Once they adjust(and yes it could be awhile) they will be out all the time and eating like pigs.

i would also suggest strapping some sheet algea to a few small rocks and putting them around the tank for them to graze off of(after the lights are off of course)

Just go for eating for now, after that the rest will fall into place.

For some reason Genicanthus males are more difficult to acclimate than females. Reducing the lighting period/quanity will help. If you do that and feed planktonic like food he will eventually start. Remember these are planktivores and so things floating in the water are attractive.

i have been feeding ocean plankington
The thing about him is i got him online from a vendor so i wasn't able to watch him feed. i know i shouldn't of done it but at the price and the size he is... i couldn't pass Plus it seems like the LFS around here don't ever get any of the fish i see here on RC!

And we are suppost to be one of the biggest citys in the nation!

No problem with online vendors BUT I don't shop for price, I go with quality. Vendors like Live Aquaria never disappoint me.

QT is a great idea for new fish. It gives them the opportunity to get eating, you don't have bright mh lighting and they are not competing or getting bullied by other fish.

no the angel is not getting beat up on he is the biggest fish in the tank.
I do have broght lighting though i have 3 10k ushios bulbs with 2 super actinics and 2 vho's today i noticed he has started to come out a lot more while the lights are on. So hopefully he will start eating while i am around.

They are very shy at first from what I've gathered; eventually he'll come out and about and will start eating. Good luck with him and I hope it starts to eat soon. Keep us updated.

progress as of today
The angel is coming out more but he retreats when he notices me coming toward the tank. Still not eating

i pray that is the case as i have been there everyday and he seems to continue to show more and more everyday so...
