SWC skimmer WILL NOT stop overskimming

I treated with Melafix and Ich Attack nearly 2 months ago.

After the 'prescribed' time I put back in the 3 bags of chemi-pure elite and waited 24 hours before changing 40 gallons ( I have 180 total system with sump).

I plugged the skimmer in and it went nuts. I changed another 20-25gallons, same thing. Knowing I cannot change over the entire tanks volume, I waited several days and did another 10-15 gallons.

I have made sevvvveral 10-20g water changes over the course of 2 months waiting 1-2 weeks between. The skimmer has only 'relaxed' minimally.

Its in the recommended water level with all the dials set to minimum and stays between the recommended water level while skimming and doing the water changes ... tank is starting to look dirty and hobby not so enjoyable right now! help!

PS ... I have cut down on feeding drastically and the use of phyto while trying to get this to resolve ... the skimmer was working very well before medicating ... I've learned my lesson about quaratine/ hospital tanks ... but have to fix what I've done with this one!

Let it do it's job and pull out whatever is in the "system".

He cant ^ it will fill the cup with water in just a couple minutes.

Recently had this same experience. It is odd that 2 months later it hasnt stoped. After dosing I started carbonlike it says and 7days later I still couldnt skimm. So changed carbon again and kept trying to restart the skimmer each day. After 3-4 more days it stopped overflowing. Oh and I changed 40% of my water in that 2 weeks also.

Be patient. HTH

Reduce the air going to the pump. Same thing happen with my bm curve 7 sometime. When it happen, I put a pipe on the air silencer with a valve and it work very well.

I have everything set to the most minimal amount... I ran the little hose it comes with to let it just keep flowing back into the sump ..and eventually its still too much flow and its full tilt out the house at bottom of collection cup and still overflows out the top of the cup!

How old is your Chemi-pure? Maybe you should change it? More, larger water changes, too.

it was 3 months old max ... and went out and bought more and changed it anyway ... even with the new stuff still causing problems, I am going to take the skimmer right out and clean the hell out of it ... maybe vinegar bath

You may want to consider giving the skimmer a good vinegar bath. I had an incident like yours, but with a different brand of skimmer, and no amount of water changes would stop the overflowing. The 24 hour vinegar bath did the trick.

thanks someone on a local forum suggested the same ... I am going to try tmrw :)

I had similar experience after Melafix, I just let skimmer do its thing then replace the water after, it was like water change and eventually it back down to normal.

run some carbon to get whatever is in your system out of the water.

you should be able to adjust your skimmer so it doesnt overflow, are you sure its not something clogged or broken on your skimmer?
