So my grail fish is a candy basslet. I saw a swissgard recently and it looks very similar just not as vibrant in color. Do you guys think that they would be similar in personality and such in the tank? I'm pretty sure when timing and money is right I will get the candy but the swissgard I saw was very cool. My only other question and issue is I have a royal Gramma. Being a basslet do you guys think they will fight too much? Thanks in advance guys

The candy basslet is a deep water fish. Part of why they're so expensive is because they are harder to catch. The diver has to go much deeper to find them. This also means they live in cooler temperature water. Keeping them in a normal tropical reef temp greatly reduces their lifespan.

I had a swissguard and he was a great fish, went to another home when I combined my nanos into a dwarf lion tank. I've seen the swissguard next to candy and could never justify the difference the cost. It may have been a great specimen of swissguard and some say the deep water fishes lose some of vibrancy over time. This happened to me with a multilined basslet, he was very vibrant at first and did fade over time.

I have a swissguard and royal gramma in the same tank. The gramma was little territorial at first charging but never did any harm. My springeri pseudchromis almost killed the swissguard after being in the tank together for 6 months no problem, then randomly the pseudo decided to terrorize the swissguard so badly I didn't think it would survive, barely any fin left, missing scales no longer eating; this was in a 135g but probably the cause of only feeding the tank 1 a week until I could move the tank to my new place. Caught the pseudo and in a few weeks the swiss healed 100%. Now all three are back together but this time in a 240g and no problems yet. Swissguards are pretty hardy fish but are very shy and peaceful making them easy to be picked on by aggressive fishes. They can be jumpers too. A unique fish to have and I'm happy to have one.
