switching to halides

im switching from my vho's to 3x175 metal halides and one 6' actinic vho....the total wattage is about twice of what i have now....the question is can i switch suddenly or should i switch it over time

just cut the lighting time in half and go up 1/2 hr a day till you get back to your normal schedual.

i switched last week from 400 watts of t-5 to 2 250mh and 2 11- vho atinics. right now i turn left side for 3hrs. then when it turns off the other side comes on for 3 hrs. i will slowly increase the time in the middle until both sides run at the same time.
