System flow

My 220 is sps dominate and has good growth and coloration. I have a Dart on a 4-way CL, and a second Dart for the return, it T's off to the 125 fuge and goes into the tank via a super squirt. My skimmer is an areo-foamer driven by a mag 24. I did some caulculations on the fishroom electrical and decided that I wanted to lower watts. The Mag is a hog. I was thinking about getting another Dart to drive the skimmer. Then I thought why not pull the dart from the CL and put a hammerhead on the CL. I am ready to order the hammerhead, but a friend tells me I am crazy. I have plenty of flow, the HH is a monster that I do not need and everything is working fine, so don't fix it.
Anyone here care to offer up an opinion?

What is the turnover per hour with your tank now? I myself liek to see between 30 and 40 times an hour.

Another tank keeper in Rockford! Did you know about the club out here? Rockfordreefers.org, great group of reefers, check them out.
As far as turn, inside the 220 I am estimating it is at 18 turns an hours. So you'd vote kick it up.

Want to lower that wattage? You can do better than that (although the hammerhead idea will work... I have seen it done like you speak of... for some reason, hammerheads are very popular by me).

You can swap out the skimmer for a needlewheel first of all... that will cut out a good 100-200 watts right there. And then use the Dart on the CL, OR, trade up for Tunzes.

The watt issue as become second to my desire to have more power. After all if I ditch the mag, replace it with a dart and put a hammerhead on it I will be adding watts.
The tunzes are an idea, but I have a hole in my tank for the CL. And I love my skimmer so I am not ready to look elsewere, just yet. Good ideas though. Thnaks
