Would keeping a T. Derasa under 6x54 T5 about 10 inches below the surface work?? T-5's are sitting right on tank rim about 1 inch above glass... any thoughts??

You have enough light to keep any of the tridacnids. I have the same amount on my 120g. The derasa should be on the sand.

I agree with skinz78. I keeping clams under T5HO too and they do very well... And FWI, Derasa is a deep water clam, so they don't need light as much as crocea and maxima (who are shallow water species). Anyway, you can keep crocea and maxima too with T5HO, but you have to put it as high as you can on the rock.

awesome... good to know. My LFS doesn't have a ton of experience with T-5 units as they run all Halide and supplement with VHO. Thanks for the heads up.

My Derasa is doing just fine under my T5's. Has easily doubled in size since I first got him. He is about 20" from the water surface:

How much current is too much for the clam? Just got my in yesterday from clamsdirect. Its mantle is flopping around; but it didn't retract or anything.

Should I build something to block off the current?

If the clams mantle is unnaturaly curled over and held there for a period of time then it is in too much current

Man, just got this Derasa last Thursday along with two Crocea. Today when I got home. The Derasa's shell is wide open; but the mantle and the whole body has skrinked. I was told it is call "gapping" :(

It is sitting on a deep sand bed, while the two Croceas are sitting on rock. (The both are doing fine).

I acclimate them for over an hour, any idea what cause this? I have lot of fishes in the tank; but doesn't seem to be bothering the clams.
