T-slotted Aluminum Stand vs Teak Storage Cabinet

So I found a sweet deal on a storage cabinet built with natural teak, wire brushed buffet sideboard. The 4 legs (about 5" high) and the base are made of steel. The dimensions are 60 long by 38 high x 18 deep which fits my 120 gallon aquarium perfectly. The price tag... $350.

My dilemma is this. Will this teak cabinet be strong enough for my aquarium once I fill it with water. FYI... The tank will be in a basement. Will building a simple t-slotted aluminum stand be better? This was my original plan before finding this piece of furniture on the local classified ads. And if so, will it cost me about the same or less to order the materials?

I ask those with knowledge of this topic to answer quickly. I have to decide by tomorrow which direction I will go: The teak cabinet or the t-slotted aluminum stand.

You all are awesome!

I was also eager to build a tSlot stand. Did you make any designs or were you still designing? As for the current desk, find an aquarium calculator and see how much your tank will weigh once filled then load the desk up, use weights or buckets of water to augment your body weight. Then sit on the desk and wiggle around to see if it holds ok.

I have a design in mind. Just a basic table really. As far as your suggestion, it is a good one. But I don't think the current owner would allow me to do that before I bought it. LOL

Cheers!

Its all about your personal preference..

And we certainly can't see details on the construction of the stand from just the picture you show..
But I will say that you can certainly "beef up" areas on virtually any stand as needed to support an aquarium..

So IMO.. If you like it.. buy it then beef up if needed..

From what I see it certainly looks like it has the potential to be plenty strong as is..

If the teak would hold it I would totally use that. I think it would be a cool talking piece. You could even mount a teak speargun over it.

Where is the filtration going?
Would be my question with the teak cabinet.
You would have to totally redo it to fit anything inside it and it would not be very user friendly to maintain.

Have a contact at CDI if you want, same thing, have had great experiences with them and their products. Have built many different projects with them, also the architectural anodizing looks mint! With the black brackets and inserts make it look extremely professional.
