T5 HO lighting from sylvania and G.E. 54w are they safe for corals?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone, Im new to the hobby and was wondering if G.E. 48"HO T5 and sylvania starcoat 48"HO T5 both 54w are safe lighting for my newbie reef tank? I happen to have about 150 bulbs so im hoping lol...thanks for any help

They are safe BUT I don't belive they come in the color temps that we like to see for our tanks. If I remember right they are 4500k, 5500k and 6500k all of which are way to yellow. They do make great bulbs to use over the fuge. Just my opinion.

65K would be fine for a daylight bulb. 65K MH bulbs are used to grow corals fast, while not as aesthetically pleasing, they can be used. Anything lower than that I wouldn't use.
