T5 questions

Looking to convert to t5's and here are some questions:

IceCap SLR's have a clip to hold the bulb, does that means I don't need the standoff mounting brackets, just the endcaps?

Do you think I can find end caps at a hardware store or is it worth $10 a pair for the ice caps (need 12)?

Recommendations on the best place to get the SLR's - I'll be looking at the garage sale next week but not so sure I'll find these used.

the Standoffs are for the endcaps, not the slr's

understand but if the standoffs are to mount the endcaps, but the bulbs are supported by the slr's - I therefore assume the standoffs aren't needed as mounting the slr will also mount the bulb - correct?

No the standoff give you the the ability to mount the endcap to your canopy. You may be able to figure out another way but it's easier to use them. You will need Endcaps, Standoffs, reflectors, bulbs, ballast and wiring. ReefGeek.com is the best place to but T5s.

If you mount the reflectors to the canopy you can use the lamps clips to hold the lamps in place. Unless you can find push on endcaps that are designed to be used like that I would mount the endcaps and clamp the reflector to the lamp as designed.
