So I am running a mixed reef currently in a 125 gallon, 6 foot long tank. I made the mistake of buying a 48" lighting fixture. It is the Nova Extreme Pro 8x54w t5 HO with the 4 white moonlights. I do not have SLR's there is a german made parabolic reflector that it is running.
I am using stock bulbs that came with the fixture, slimpaq actinic and 10,000k daylight 4 x 4.
I have been reading the other T5 threads around here and I really like the coloring of mcliffy2's tank. The situation it seems to me is that I did not buy a fixture that had SLR, I was under the impression that this fixture did have SLR and I got fooled. So I have to do with what I have for now and use this light on my 72" tank.
I do not have the luxory of viewing any images posted on photobucket here at work (pretty much the only time Im on RC) and I cannot see half of the pictures that you guys post. I was able to see mcliffy2's tank and I was blown away by the coloration and just beauty of his tank. I want mine to look as nice
props.
So I am moving here in the next month or so and I am thinking about purchasing an actual RR tank and a new lighting fixture and dedicating this fixture to a future 75 gallon RR tank project.
I have been looking all over for quality t5 fixtures and I am upset that ATI does not build a 72" fixture. I want my next tank to be a 180 gallon 6' tank.
https://diyreef.authsecure.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=599 this is the fixture I will most likely purchase. 72inch Aquactinics Constellation T5 fixture for fourteen 39W T5HO lamps.
I know everyone asks for bulb combinations and I have read that ATI bulbs are a sure bet. I want to get my new tank before I buy my new light, so I plan on doing the best with what I have before I buy new. I have had this current light up and running for about 6 months now and it has done a great job, except its just not big enough and I am not sure if I am getting good growth or not. I just got into SPS and this is technically my first tank that has been up and running for a year now.
I do not know what my PAR readings are and I do not know how good these slimpaq bulbs are and I dont know how good my growth is compaired to others. Everything looks great and grows slowly and healthily.
So my question to the expirienced SPS reefers out there is what should I do? Save my money for a better fixture and not buy new bulbs right now? Buy new bulbs now and if so 4x blue+ / 4x aquablue special? I have been lurking on HighestOlives thread and people mentioned not to run any actinics on his 4x bulb fixture. I am confused guys and I want good growth and color and right now my lighting looks like crap compaired to everyone elses lol. Help a brotha out.
