T5 vs LED's

Ive been using a T5/LED combo for many years, but decided to try all LED's a few months ago, with Maxspect Razor. The light itself is really cool, and I am sure it works great for some. But just wanted to share my experience with shadowing.

10/30 - Here is the coral I when I got it from Grant. Thanks again!

12/23 - Notice the right side turning white

1/1 -Notice the right side completely white - I switched back to my T5/Leds's on this day

1/11 - The coral is starting to come back

1/24 - Finally looking much better

Side note: I have an amazing Led light for sale if anyone is interested ;)

Lol, got to ask did you properly acclimate the corals to the light?

I believe so, all my other corals I got that day are fine. And this one seemed ok, besides that shaded area. I probably would still be using the leds's if this coral didn't have a huge branch blocking the light.

Maybe I should have just cut that branch off instead of changing back to my old light.

T5 vs LED's

Here's what I've come to believe regarding leds - manufactures recommendations are garbage when it comes to coverage. If ecotech suggests 2, get 4. To minimize shading issues it seems that covering the top of the tank
With panel type fixtures works the best ala LANI leds from the triton fellas.

This is kind of the method that I plan on doing on my new build and the advice I gave to bob regarding doubling up the reef breeders fixtures.

Disclaimer - all of my opinions are for sps focused tanks and most of this info was blatantly stolen from Adam at Battlecorals from our many discussions about lighting and leds, of which he has had amazing results
