T5 vs MH vs LED Lighting for Anemone

kinda a loaded question. depends on tank size, light fixture/spec etc.

I am running 3w LEDs and have no issues with my condy anem. I run 3 120w LED boxes over a 6 foot tank. The condy is anchored in the middle bottom to a rock, about 2 1/4' under one of the lights.

OK, I gotta fellow reefer that has a 30 gallon bow. They bought a long tentacle anemone. They are new and wanting to keep the price down so what would you recommend as a minimum.

I am a believer in MH for anemones. I have lost anemones over time using T5. They would turn pale after a few months and then begin to melt. Ever since I switched to MH, I have experienced nothing but success, but I wanted to get a few more opinions...

I have kept all species of anemone under T5, Even magnifica. LED s wont keep the cost down and metal halide will work so its whatever works best for the budget. It will be difficult to keep the heat down with a halide. A long tentecle will completly fill a 30 gallon bow in no time as well.

What T5 fixture did you use, and what kind of tank did you have?

While T5 and Metal halides are proven technalogys, I find my Cree LEDs to be quite affective.... and cost affective in the long run. With that said, my first GBTA loved both the cool whites and royal blues. That was until he committed suicide. :( My current RBTA has responded better under the LEDS I have, then the T5's at the LFS.

Each reefer has their own preference, you'll hear both sides. That's for sure.

Both Tek and ATI on different tanks, diff depths ( 20 and 27.5 inches ) Kept clams in both as well. Currently have a mag at my store under LEDs and a clam on the bottom of a 30 inch tank. ( mixture of maxspec and radion )

Been running LED and RBTA & rainbow love it. Red color is tough with LED but its a trade off with low heat & cost.

I have MH and T-5s. I've never tried LEDs. I personally prefer T-5s for both BTAs and magnificas, and H. crispa. Though MHs work just fine. My mags are under an ATI and BTAs and H. crispa are under a Tek. Years ago, i also kept BTAs and an LTA (for several years) directly under PCs. I think you could have luck with a variety of light systems, including VHOs for an LTA. For deeper water, MH or T-5s with individual reflectors are a must.

My RBTA was in a 55 gallon tank with metal halides (two 250 watt 14K Phoenix bulbs) for about a year, then 2 years ago was moved to a 125 gallon tank with 6 bulb ATI T5 fixture. It has seemed perfectly happy in both settings, no difference that I could tell. I have never had LEDs, but it sounds like plenty of people have success keeping nems with them.
