T5 wattage question

I was going to buy another bulb for my 24" T5HO Nova-extreme retrofit light. WhenI was looking around the websites some of the bulbs were 24w and some were 40w and they were both the same length (24"). Will the 40w work in the same fixture as the 24w bulb? I should buy the 40w because it will be brighter right? It came with 24w bulbs, but I could I buy the 40w and it work and be better off?

i would also like to know this... i bought some t5 fixtures that came with 48" 28w bulbs, and i wanted to put some +50w bulbs in. would it work or is it not powerful enough?

I think the 24w are NO and the 40w are HO. Now the question is are you sure that your retro fit is HO? If it is HO then you should be fine, if it's NO then it will not fire the lamps. However the watts seem high for 24" lamps. I run 36" HO and they are only 39w. I think normaly 24" T5's are 24w HO and 14 NO.

I just talked the people at Dr. fosters and smith and they said I shouldn't go over 24w because it could burn out my retrofit

You have no worries the 40W 24" just means it runs OK with an icecap. The bulb will run at 24W on your fixture.
