T5HO Retrofit Kits

Looking at adding T5HO kits to my LEDs.

I am wondering about the Hamilton Aruba Sun 2 V series or the LET Miro-4.

Anybody have input or experience with either of these kits?

LET Miro-4

LET Miro-4

I just installed the LET Miro-4 (2 X 80w) to supplement LEDs over my 180g tank. It was an easy install... Allows a wide range of bulbs. A good choice for me.

Can you post a pic on how it is setup over tank. I like the idea of these supplementing LEDS

Tank is standard 180g (72 x 24 x 24). I run an open canopy. LEDs are three RapidLED Onyx fixtures mounted on AI rails. Supplemental T5 is LET Miro-4 (2 x 80w). T5: ATI Coral Plus & ATI True Actinic.

Firstly I appreciate the pics. Now is that like a custom built hood you made to fit your lights? And how high off the water are they set. Liking your setup

Yes... I built the canopy with LEDs in mind. It's 8 1/2" High, LED are mounted 8" over the water. T5s are 4 1/2" over the water.

I want to do the same concept on my 120 gallon. Not sure if I should do 2 of the Chinese cheaper LEDs or get the reef keeper 48" photon. And get the 4ft t5 kit you got to supplement. The led choice I'm not sure of. Reef keeper light $429.00 2 Chinese LED lights $170.

The reef keeper is programmable

I put together my own retrofit. It is s bit cheaper. You just need to buy reflectors which can be tricky to find. I know BRS has them in now.

I'm happy with the Onyx fixtures and the support RapidLED provides. They sell for $299 each, but you can pick up refurbished units for $199 each at their website. They are dimmable and can be controlled by an Apex.

Sologarth that looks great. I have radions now what does adding t5s give? I'm very interested in doing this

Thanks Drichard . . . D Richard?

To be honest I just added them for photography. They run about an hour a day now. I'm experimenting to see if I can get better color and growth. Really though I get great color and growth with just the 2 radions. I have details about my lighting on my build thread in case you are interested.

So sologarth how's growth working out? Want to build me one now lol. I was told the T5 helps with filling in the shadow spots of the LEDs

I have the Hamilton. It takes up a lot of room so I just ordered a let miro to get the bulbs closer together in front. I use them to supplement 1 radion and 2 Chinese boxes on my 150. I thought it helped with colors through out the tank.

I would get the Chinese boxes. They work very well and you can't beat the price.

I don't like the onyx fixture that much. Bought a refurbished unit for a fuge light and man the fan is loud. It's "dimmable" where it turns on at 7-10% and not 0. But it sure does grow chaeto like no body's business.

If I bought a 60" retro kit can I cut the reflector and use as a 48"? Also it's the 80 watt model and I run 54 watt bulbs with no problems?

I've got the 2x LET Miro 60" kits to go with my LED's. I'm still putting everything together but so far I like the flexibility of placement and installation and the reflectors are nice. I did have one ballast go bad during the first 15mins of burn-in. Maybe consider purchasing through a solid retailer with a good track record, I got mine from Reefsupplies.ca and they had a replacement sent out within 48hrs.
