T5's: A cautionary note

I've heard of boring worms that do that to Sarcophyton sp.(leather) too.Ususally when corals get too much light, they recede or bleach,SPS will tissue peel.Your Nemenzophyllia(Fox)is definately a low light coral,I'd consider shading it.Plerogyra(bubble) are found in dim light too but are usually pretty adaptable to higher light levels.Make sure you acclimate slowly.

Hey thanks man, I was thinking about moving all my shroom to the floor and all my zoo to the middle will that help them out? and reduce to the time on the light too. Here is a list or corals i have in the tank, fox coral, hammer coral, bubble coral, frogspawn, green, yellow, red, pink, orange zoos, brown, red, purple and green shroom, a few acro, three toadstood leather and some green star poly. what area should i place them in from high to low Hahnmeister?

Okay, heres how I have mine...
Im not sure about fox coral...maybe someone else can chime in, but I would think its alot like bubble coral, which I put on the bottom of the tank (my 40B is 16" tall w/ 1" of sand). Hammer can be 1/2 way up, same with frogspawn. Those two can tolerate higher light levels...but it takes some time. Zoas will vary from type to type as to how much light they like, but in general, I wouldnt worry much about them...I have yet to see a zoa that doesnt grow like a weed under T5s. I dont know what type of shrooms you are growing, all I can say is that in general, the metallic and brighter colored ones like more light, and the dull ones dont. As for toadstool...they are a high light coral...but yours might not be used to it...so put them mid/high and give them some time with screen/shorter photoperiods...they will expand/retract to tell you what they like.

As for GSP...I cant put them anywhere under my T5s w/o them dying back. If anything, I would try putting them under a partial overhang or off to one side/corner where the flow is strong but the light is duller.

Hey Hahnmeister, Thanks for the info man. I will take a close picture of my tank and show it to you guys when i have everything in place.

Hey guys do you think it's a good idea to remove two of the light bulbs and have a 6 buld instead so that i wouldn't bleach out my corals? and would that hurt the t5 unit if i remove two of the bulbs. So my light will be like this
B+
AB
A03
A03
AB
B+

what do you guys think?

You could mess around with some off brand 10K's in your mix just to see what happens but 6 lamps (using good lamps) is enough.

reef211, a mutual friend of Hahn and mine has fox coral pretty high (2/3 of the way up in a 120g) and it is doing quite well.

hahn, its hank that has the fox in a direct light on his 2x250w mh 120g rig.
