T5's available at lfs

I took my Norman lfs tour last week and was happy to find a local supply for T5 lights. When I first decided to use T5 lights I couldn't find them anywhere locally and there was no good information available for them anywhere other than online.

Last week I went to WetPets and Steve remembered me talking about the T5's I had. He now carries a full line of T5 supplies. Everything from bulbs, sockets and reflectors to full lamps. He told me he has had a strong response and half of his initial order sold within days.

These bulbs are all quality German bulbs. He also has a great display that shows all the bulbs lit side by side to see what the colors look like.

I also stopped into Aquatic Exotics and Slone has doubled the size of his coral tanks. He has a lot of great corals for much less than other local LFS.

</blatant promotion> :D

Where lucky to have good Local fish stores, just need to make sure we keep them in business by showing them our patronage instead of the (small buiseness killer) internet sites.

After looking into T5s I remembered my local pet shop in Shawnee gave me a demonstration as that is what they were using to grow frags but since I really did not care about growing the frags I did not pay attention to what the lights were.

If there is anyone close to Shawnee you might check out Petopia, yeah the prices are not the best but all OKCAA members get a 25% discount which generally more then makes up for it. The good thing is is that I take in fish I breed and get the credit to buy cool things like my ponies. After my big tanks complete the cycle I will get my clowns.

I have been out there a few times actually :) Its a pretty nice place. At the time I wasn't looking for salt stuff, but I will have to next time I go there.

So Back to T5s, do T5 bulbs fit in regular flourescent fixtures?

Does Lowes carry these bulbs? Did anyone check on special ordering these bulbs, I found an appliance store online that carried them and they were not expensive at all.

Just wondering.

No T5's will not fit in a regular Flourescent fixture they are substantially thinner. The T5's you saw online were not High output T5's you would be better off with PC's then with those. If you have time go out to Wet Pets steve has both the normal T5's and High output T5's You will see the difference immediatly.

Shame I did not do it when I did my pet tour. I took one of our new club members petshop hopping to show her where all of the different petshops are and I took pics.

Steve is a great guy, but the one I know from there is Darrel as he is a club member.

I have also heard about square pin and round pin, where does all that fit in?
