So I ordered my new tank. Its a 150 with red oak stand and large canopy. I will be mounting my G3's but..... its also a great chance to DYI some t5 fixtures to make it pop. I have no idea what the best t5ho reflectors and mounts are. I'm going to start my research, I want to invest in the best item the first time if possible. If you have any pro tips please share.

Back when T5s came out I jumped on a DYI kit, Ice Cap, for a 135 gallon tall tank. Individual reflectors and a good ballast are a good start. Next will be finding a quality fan that's quiet to cool the end/s of the bulbs. Then top it off with good bulbs, I used ATI. Using the clubs par meter I was getting something like 310 par on the sand

It just so happens I got a PM yesterday about a couple icecap ballasts. I'm really considering them. This is the direction I think I am heading; these would be supplemental running the length of hood separated by my G3's. I want to add the growth of 2 or 4 bulbs

I've never considered myself "retro"; do I get to use beard oils, grow-out a luxurious man-bun, and eat fine local artisan pickles in my spare time?

Check out hydroponic websites. They typically have exactly what you want.

great idea.

If your tank is 6' I have LED tubes that would work.

Thanks for the offer but Its not a 6' tank :D

Ice Cap 660? If so each ballast will overpower or overdrive, however you want to say it, 4 bulbs at a cost of 4.5 amps
