Tail and fin rot in hypo, best way to treat?

I have a bunch of fish in hypo. I decided to treat them all when my midas started showing signs of ich. All fish since day one showed some kind of sign but nothing ever progressed. Since my Midas looked like there could be a serious issue, i decided to goahead and treat them all and leave the tank fallow. Now, all perams are in check except for nitrates that are a little high 5.0/10 range, leaning more to the 5.0 range. I did a 3/4% water change today so that should help a lot.

Everyone is doing great except for my YWG. His dorsal fin is all but chewed away and half his tail is gone. I am not sure if this is rot or someone chewing on him. If i was to say that someone is chewing on him, this could make sense since he was trying to swim up the walls. He is now in a holding cup to be safe so that proble, if in fact it is that problem, is solved. Second option would be if it is bacterial. If it is bacterial, what is the best stuff to use in a .09/.10 hypo situation? I see there is stuff that is good for salt water and then there is stuff made for fresh water. I am afraid to try anything in hypo without some feedback. i tried looking for info on google but that was kind of a wash.

Just a FYI, I was going to do a round of Prazi before to make sure there are no flukes, then, follow with a good water change to be finalized by some soothing bacterial application.

Is this a good path to take or should I get the bacterial part taken care of pronto since Prazi takes 5 days to do?

Melafix and Pimafix are good products. One is anti-bacterial and one is Anti-fungal and both work well in QT.

Also if your fish have outwards signs of Ich then Formalin dips give instant relief. Many fish won't survive in the added stressed environment of QT while you wait for hypo to kill the Ich (3-4 weeks). Use Formalin coupled with hypo.

Use one at a time. Try not to mix your medicines. If it's fungal you'll see stuff growing on the fins or body. If it's standard finrot then Melafix is your best bet. Treat for a week then use teh Pima.

Was it like this when you bought the fish? Throw the medecine out the window. Might just be your overall husbandry.

Could be husbandry, but, not much to husband. Plasic container with no sand, 3 small rocks and some PVC. I suck all the poop out once a day. Only peram thats off is my nitrates. Like i said, they are in the 5.0/10 range. Amonia and nitrites are fine. Is 5.0/10 enough to burn off fins?

Just took a look, good advice.

I dont think it is bacterial because there is no white or fungas looking stuff on the fins. Could be a bully, but, I dont see anyone messing with another when i am looking at them. Does anyone know when or at what levels of ammonia, nitrite or nitrates start burning off fins?

If it's ammonia, I'd think it will most likely kill the fish before you will see any type of deterioration. Nitrites, no worries. Nitrates, I've seen fish in tanks where the levels were off the charts. No problem. Like you said though, if your not seeing any type of fungus or anything, it might just be due to bullying. Usually though, when that happens, you have to many fish in a tank. Husbandry. See alot of this in freshwater cichlids.

Well, unfortionatly they are all in QT together, but, the QT bin "should" be big enough for all of them. Okay, it is just a little bit crowded but they are for the most part happy. I will chalk it up to him being chewed on.....poor guy..... so I will keep an eye on him.

Thanks for the help.
