Tail Spot Blenny & coral?

Is this a blenny that is truly reef safe? They look like great little fish and seem 2 have good personalities. Plus will they graze algae in the tank and if so what types of algae do they normally eat?

Thanks for sharing your experiences,

Robka

In my experience, absolutely reef safe.
Definitely has a great personality. Family favorite.
Ours has never bothered any corals (sps, lps, polyps, or clams; other than resting on the montipora caps.) Or anything else in the tank for that matter. It ignores everybody.
It will pick at the rocks in the tank, but not so much as to control any algae outbreaks. Ours didn't even pick at the algae on the glass until it witnessed another fish doing so. But it's not really cleaning anything. We feed ours small pieces of dried Nori every day (or so) from our algae feeding station. (Nori should be its main food source.) Otherwise it eats the mysis, cyclopeeze and other frozen/prepared foods that are fed to the rest of the tank.
I highly recommend the Tail Spot Blenny.

Thanks I pulled the trigger and picked up a TSB along with a two spot tang from Divers Den tonight. I can't wait:)

:D They're great little fish! There are no guarantees as far as "reef-safe" goes, especially with blennies there is always a small amount of risk, each fish has its own personality. Even with clownfish you can occasionally run into the individual who is an absolute terror and would be considered not "reef-safe". Tail-spots are probably one of the safest blennies you'll find though. I've had two (the first one I have suspicions a really big hermit I had at the time got to), neither one of them has ever pecked at anything but algae. Mine is always out, he'll swim around and peck at some rocks then find a hole to stuff his fishy butt into to watch the rest of the tank. If you have any big snail shells in your tank my first TSB loved to set-up home in one of them. :D

+3! I agree with every opinion from above. My tail-spot act exactly the same way. Great little fish. Loves to find a perch and just watch the tank or the room. Should be a great addition.
