Situation
2 inch Tailspot Blenny in a 10g for observational QT with a slightly smaller Midas Blenny, day 10. Small pieces of mature live rock with no green algae to eat & probably limited copepods if that's important. The TSB is listed as an omnivore relying partially on picking at live rock. I have a 4-5 weeks of QT & deworming to go, Do I need to feed some green food? Is it essential in this case? I've never fed omnivores or herbivores before.
Feeding
I tried some small squares of nori like sheets & mixed algae/meat small NLS pellets. But I can't confirm they're being consumed. I fed a small amount of freeze dried phytoplankton, cyclopseeze, small krill etc & the fish now picks excitedly at the water column, but I can't really tell if or what it's eating from the water column as my only view is from the top. Do they even eat phytoplankton? I would guess they're too small.
Questions
So is a TSB likely to go for nori, sheets or 100% algae pellets? If so, what brands? Or am I wasting my time? Bad idea, rehydrated phytoplankton? I don't have any fuzzy rock from the DT to spare for a loan. How important is the algae food to the TSB? Maybe dirty filter pads to pick at? Some grungy LFS chaeto? Live or frozen phyto?
Any tips on keeping the TSB properly fed during QT? Please talk about your TSB's eating habits & the role algae consumption & grazing play in the display tank too. Thanks for any insights!
